Windmill Microlending Explainer

Role: Designer, Animator

This is an explainer for Windmill Microlending (a Canadian charity that helps skilled immigrants & refugees rise to their potential). I was hired by Door Knocker Media to do this one and run free with the design and animation. I struggled hard at first because I wanted to push myself to design a more contemporary piece than I was used to - specifically the character design. After a lot of mood boarding and character style research - I landed on our main character, which dictated how the rest of the piece would look.

For animation: up until now I had exclusively used Rubberhose to rig my characters and found it was a bit limited for building the character I wanted. I stumbled upon Limber (https://lnkd.in/gHUvwRgK) and fell in love with it. There's just the right amount of extra needed control you get, like switching between FK and IK with keyframes, and controlling the thickness of each segment of a limb.

I also pushed to have as many natural looking transitions as possible - keeping the hard cuts to a minimum - and although it's a bit of a hellish AE project to make timing adjustments to, I think they look great.

I'm really happy with how this one turned out and can't wait to see what I can challenge myself with next.
